Dominique Vanhaegenberg
Dominique Vanhaegenberg is a famous trombone player but he's also well-known for his arrangements and compositions. His naughty eyes attract and charm public as well as fellow musicians. His musical skills are highly appreciated and respected in Belgium and abroad.
Dominique got inspired when he accompanied his father, who was a euphonium player, to the weekly rehearsals of the local fanfare. Not much later, at the age of nine, his musical education began at the Academy for Music and Word 'Peter Benoit' in Harelbeke : the first year solfeggio, the second year he started with trombone and piano lessons. Later, he added double bass but after one year he had enough of it. One can have too much of the good things. Thirteen years old, he left for Ghent and enrolled in the secondary art school, option music, a combination between general and music courses. In the sixth grade he obtained a first prize solfeggio, with great distinction. He continued his music education by studying at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent, where he won first prizes for trombone (class Michel Tilkin), euphonium and chamber music, he got a higher degree trombone (great distinction) and finally also the didactic certificate for brass instruments.
From 1991 Dominique Vanhaegenberg was first soloist trombone with the 'Nieuw Vlaams Symfonieorkest' (nowadays 'Symfonieorkest van Vlaanderen'), a position that he left in 2000 with the intention to become first soloist/principal trombone with the Flemish Radio Orchestra (former BRTN-Philharmonic Orchestra). He was permanently employed by the orchestra of André Rieu (2009-2010) and Il Novecento (1992 till now). He free-lancet with several orchestras and ensembles in Belgium and abroad (Beethoven Academie, Rotterdam Philharmonic, I Fiamminghi, l' Orchestre de la Monnaie, the Filharmonie, Tabas & Co (Kuifje Musical), Sacco & Vanzetti (Musical Dirk Brossé), etc....
Nowadays Dominique is a freelance musician with Studio 100, Music Hall and 'Symfonieorkest van Vlaanderen' and he presents himself as arranger/composer for different ensembles.
Since 2001 Dominique has been engaged in a considerable part of the arrangements for the 'Night of the Proms' concerts : for the full orchestra, the Electric Band, choir and backing vocals, arrangements for artists such as The Jacksons, Anastacia, Seal, Naturally 7, Angie Stone, Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), Grace Jones, Boy George, Alison Moyet, John Miles, James Blunt, Zucchero, Kim Wilde, Mauranne, OMD, Golden Earring, John Fogerty, Roger Daltrey (The Who), Charleen Spiteri (Texas), Tony Henri, Kid Creole, Roby Lakatos, Midge Ure (Ultravox), Chimène Badi, Ozark Henry, Gunther Verspecht (Stash), Koen Buyse (Zornik), Sioen, Clouseau, Nathalia, Glennis Grace, Jeroen Vanderboom and many others.
In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 Dominique wrote arrangements for the 'Symphonique TV-Show' (France 2) ; artists such as Céline Dion, Kim Wilde, Johnny Hallyday, Jimmy Sommerville, Julio Iglesias, Charles Aznavour, Lara Fabian, Pascal Obispo, Anastacia, Gipsy Kings, Garou, Laurent Voulzy, Danny Brillant, Amel Bent, Jenifer, Anggun, I Muvrini, etc...).
In 2004 Dominique took care of the full show "VRT 50 jaar" (Il Novecento + Band) with several famous artists : Ozark Henry, Hooverphonic, Novastar, Stijn Meuris, Sioen, Peter Evrard, Nathalia, Clouseau, Nicole & Hugo, Spring etc...
Since 2008 Dominique Vanhaegenberg wrote many arrangements for all Belgian Royal Military Music Bands (the Belgian Guides, the Navy and the Air Force) for artists such as Sofie, Brahim, Geena Lisa etc...., different medley's : Queen on the Air, Marines-medley, Air force-medley, Beatlemania, etc....), complete parts of their concerts (James Bond music, 40 min.), other arrangements e.g. Rum and Coca-Cola, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Santorini, A Little Smurfs-Fantasy, Dream a little Dream of me,...), the national en international Tattoos of the Navy (2011, 2012), etc.....
In 2008 he composed the tune for 'Stars of Europe' TV show, world-wide broadcasted.
Since 2009 Dominique made arrangements for the Royal Music Band "Johan Willem Friso", Netherlands, for artists such as Glennis Grace, Rafaella, Edsilia Rombley, Four Classics, etc..., also different arrangements such as 'Cry me a River' and themes of 'On The Town' by Leonard Bernstein.
For the Belgian Eurosong contribution of 2010 (Tom Dice – Me and My Guitar) he wrote the string-arrangements.
In 2011 Dominique wrote the arrangements for Jelle Cleymans & concert band, conducted by Dirk Decaluwé.
In 2012 Dominique created :
- arrangements for 'James Bond in Concert', organized by Film Festival Ghent, with the participation of Belgian artists and the Brussels Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé.
- piano arrangements for Veerle Baetens and her band 'Dallas'
- arrangements for Belgian Brass (concerts and radioprograms)
- arrangements for the full CD 'Mucho Gusto', for Mucho Gusto Salsa Big Band.
- Further arrangements and sampling for CD-recordings, the new CD's from Els De Schepper and Born Crane, etc...
Besides all this Dominique wrote several pieces for music academies, for concert bands and various ensembles, a lot them are published by Golden River Music.
